According to World Mine Tailings Failures, globally there has been a significant increase in tailings failure rates per million tonnes of ore produced over the past two decades, and this trend is set to continue. Jamie Spiers, a Senior Tailings Engineer with SRK Consulting (UK) believes that consideration of innovative technologies and methods related to mine waste management are essential in order to effectively reduce the risks associated with the ever increasing volumes of tailings storage observed at mining operations worldwide.
In a presentation to MINEX Europe 2019 on 25-27 June 2019 in Sofia, Bulgaria, Jamie will focus on key areas of research and innovation related to tailings dewatering, transport and storage, which could offer potential solutions at the mines of the future.
